Electric Storage Heaters

An electric thermal storage heater is a stand-alone, off-peak heating system that eliminates the need for a backup fossil fuel heating system that is wall-mounted and looks a bit like a radiator that contains a ‘bank’ of specially designed, high-density ceramic bricks. These bricks can store vast amounts of heat for extended periods of time.

The bricks are surrounded by high-efficiency insulation as electric thermal storage heaters draw electricity during off-peak hours when it is cheaper, normally from midnight until 7 a.m. in winter and from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. in summer. Although, this can vary. The stored heat is automatically regulated in relation to outdoor temperature and the heating requirements of the user.

The main advantage of storage heaters is that they’re cheaper to run compared to other types of electrical heating that must operate during peak hours. Electric storage heaters made since 2018 must have built-in programmable timers, fans, and thermostats. This allows them to release heat as needed, depending on the external temperature. The heaters are exceptionally quiet, even those that use a fan and are easy to install, as they can be mounted on to your wall anywhere that electricity can be wired. If you have solar panels, the savings you make from using the electricity you generate to charge up storage heaters during the day will always outweigh the money you’ll make by exporting it back to the grid. Many electric utilities have energy efficiency credits programs that makes electric storage heaters heat even more economical by offering you credits based on the number and size of heaters you install in your home.

Use Modes Of Electric Storage Heaters

Supplemental Heat

Electric storage heating is the best price-sensitive heating solution on the market. By itself, it is a complete heating system, providing heat 24 hours but using energy at low-rate prices. However, these units can also be installed in conjunction with other heating solutions or as an add-on to an existing heat source in the house.

Heat Pumps

If you’re looking for ways to decrease your electricity or oil bill, it is very much worth considering the benefits of electric storage heater units together with heat pumps for your comfort. Heat pumps are a great complement to electric storage heaters because they are not actually producing heat. Rather, they are extracting existing heat from the outdoors and redistributing it into the home as they can reduce heat expenses in peak hours.

ECOMBI is a smaller, slimmer, and sleeker unit that provides comfort in smaller areas in the house that have cold spots such as corridors, bathrooms, or bedrooms. They can easily replace existing electric baseboard heaters, maintaining a constant or programmed set up temperature at a reduced energy cost as the whole idea of using this combination of products is to provide heat around the clock in the whole house, moving all the heat energy expenses to the off-peak hours in order to reduce expenses.

Gas or Wood Stoves and Fireplaces

Stoves and fireplaces are heating solutions used mainly in big open rooms as living, dining, or recreation rooms as they are usually limited to certain hours per day and only to the room where they are installed. Electric storage heaters can help provide heat to the rest of the house and also to that room when the fireplace is off by compensating the temperature decrease and balance the heat in the room.

Freeze Protection Mode

This mode is perfect for those weekend homes or office premises located in cold areas, where the equipment will not be running several days a week or even for long periods of time. In this case, if you activate the frost-protection mode, ECOMBI will not allow the room temperature to fall under 7 degrees Celsius, thus avoiding problems such as the pipes freezing or the house getting too cold or damp before it is used next. By using the frost-protection mode together with the weekly programming, you can decide which days of the week you want the equipment to be running and which of these are in frost-protection mode.

ECOMBI Plus is a digital static accumulator with accumulated load management, fully programmable and with the possibility of management and remote control via Wi-Fi. Its unique advantage over traditional accumulators is that ECOMBI Plus evaluates daily energy consumption and heat loss in the room to determine future heat needs, automatically self-regulating the energy load, adjusting it to the established comfort needs.
